Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly set the pace in the pursuit of Brazilian wonderkid Endrick, and Premier League sides may soon follow.
Endrick has quickly shown himself to be one of the most exciting youngsters in world football. Indeed, the forward bagged six goals in seven games for Palmeieras’ academy side.
In addition, he has notched five goals in four Brazil Under-17 fixtures. While those stats are impressive, they do not show what he can do in senior football.
However, Endrick has begun to do that, too. Indeed, the 16-year-old broke a record to become the youngest player to score a goal for Palmeiras’ first team recently.
He did so on just his fourth senior appearance. While that is obviously a great achievement in itself, what’s all the more impressive is that he scored again 11 minutes later.
Endrick also provided an assist to a teammate the game prior. Indeed, he has been directly involved in three goals in four senior games at the tender age of 16.
Naturally, that has alerted the big boys of European football. A host of Premier League sides including Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with him.
So too have some sides on mainland Europe, including Real Madrid and PSG.
Real Madrid, PSG set pace
It’s those two sides who are leading the pursuit for the youngster at the moment.
Spanish outlet Marca reports that PSG have offered €20million (approx £17.1million) for him. That is quite a fee for a player who has only made four senior appearances.
Real have not gone all guns blazing, but are handling the pursuit in their own way. Indeed, the report states that they have ‘entertained Endrick’s parents’ at the Bernabeu.
What’s more, the Spanish giants have apparently since sent scouts to watch the youngster in Brazil.
Man Utd and Chelsea could soon follow suit. However, there is a key reason as to why they will not have to spring into action immediately.
Big Endrick transfer will have to wait
From his start in senior football, there is no denying that Endrick is a hot prospect. However, four games is not enough of a sample size to fully pass judgement.
Indeed, it would be best for him to remain in Brazil where he can be nurtured into a quality player, and could have the chance at a big move later down the line.
That will have to be the case, anyway. Indeed, given Endrick is under the age of 18, he is not yet allowed to make a move internationally.
With that being said, it seems unlikely that Palmeiras would accept the PSG offer, knowing they will lose their prospering star in two years, when he may be even more influential.
It also begs the question why the French side have bid in the first place, when they would not benefit from the deal for some time.
Should the offer not be accepted, that may play into the hands of the other interested clubs. They will be able to keep tabs on the forward for the next few years and make a decision on whether to pursue him when the time comes that he can move abroad.
