Vinicius Junior is set to miss Wednesday's Champions League clash against Liverpool after sustaining a hamstring injury over the weekend.

The 24-year-old completed the full 90 minutes as the reigning Spanish and European champions defeated La Liga opponents Leganes on Sunday night.

However, Madrid have revealed that the Brazilian could be sidelined for a number of weeks after an assessment carried out by the club's medical staff confirmed the forward had suffered damage to his hamstring.

"Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Vini Jr., he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg," read a club statement on Monday. "His progress will be monitored."

If unable to overcome the issue in time for Wednesday night, Vinicius will be the latest player to be sidelined for Madrid, who already face the prospect of taking on the Premier League and Champions League leaders without Rodrygo, Eder Militao, Daniel Carvajal, David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez.

And to make matters worse, Carlo Ancelotti could also be without Aurelien Tchouameni after the midfielder was left out of the squad for the 3-0 win at Leganes.

The France international has not featured for club or country since sustaining an ankle injury in the 3-1 defeat to AC Milan at the start of the month.

However, reports in Spain claim that Tchouameni, who was linked with a move to Anfield before joining Madrid in 2022, has set his sights on a return to action against Liverpool.

The Reds, on the other hand, are set to be without Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota on Wednesday, while Trent Alexander-Arnold faces a race against the clock to prove his fitness after missing Sunday's 3-2 win at Southampton.
