With a playing squad of well over 30 players, Chelsea are expected to be busy in the summer window and a surprise name has been tipped to join the clearout.

Under Todd Boehly so far, Chelse have signed 21 players. Given their oversized squad, they will need to sell before they buy in the upcoming window.

Several big names have already been tipped for an exit at the end of the season. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Christian Pulisic are among the first-team stars who are expected to leave.

However, a surprise name has also been thrown into the mix. Carney Chukwuemeka only joined the club in the summer and he is already said to be weighing up an exit.

According to talkSPORT, the 19-year-old is likely to be in high demand from rival clubs this summer. As he has only been handed a handful of opportunities, he could be one of the next players to leave.

The midfielder joined Chelsea in the summer from Aston Villa for a fee of around £18million. He has only made one start in the league and has made 10 substitute appearances.

Plenty of fans thought that Frank Lampard might have given the midfielder more opportunities, but this has not transpired. Since Lampard’s arrival in April, Chukwuemeka hasn’t played a single minute.

Across all competitions, the youngster has only racked up 224 minutes of football. With a lack of game time and a clearout on the horizon, it’s understandable why he might be considering his options.

Chelsea need to build around youngsters

While plenty of Chelsea’s signings have flopped so far, their younger stars have shown flashes of quality. The club had a change of direction in the January window to sign as much young talent as possible.

The likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez were their marquee signings. However, the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke have shown promise.

Mauricio Pochettino remains the favourite to take the Chelsea job going into next season. The Argentine manager has been out of work since July last summer when he was let go by PSG.

The 51-year-old has an excellent track record when it comes to developing youngsters and he would surely like to keep someone like Chukwuemeka around.

The Chelsea youngster would be a natural in Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 system and the incoming manager will surely have a say on who comes and goes.

Fresh reports have even revealed that Pochettino has given the nod to sign Bayern Munich winger Sadio Mane this summer.

The former Liverpool winger has had a tough time in Germany and now a Premier League reunion is looking like it could be on the cards.

With Chelsea now well-rooted in the bottom half and winless in seven matches, the upcoming summer will be one of the most important in the club’s history.

They cannot afford to make the same mistakes as they did in the previous window and they will be banking on a strong start next season to get them back on track.
