Jamie Redknapp thinks Liverpool midfielder Fabinho is already past his best after a number of below-par performances this season.

The Reds have had a terrible season for their high standards with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table after a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

Midfield has been one of a number of problems for Liverpool this season with Klopp’s team lacking intensity and quality at times this term.

Jude Bellingham is understood to be their top target for the summer transfer window with reports that his decision won’t be impacted by the Reds’ poor position in the Premier League table.

And Redknapp agrees that Bellingham won’t have a problem playing for an underperforming Liverpool side, while he has urged the Reds to find a replacement for Fabinho.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “Jude Bellingham will look at Liverpool and look at Klopp as a viable option because of what it will bring and how much he can improve. It’s not going to be easy to sign him because every club wants him but that’s the sort of player you’ve got to be looking for.”

The former Liverpool midfielder added: “As low as it’s been for Liverpool at times, you’re never that far away, you’re only one or two players away.

“A couple of players – Fabinho looks like for some reason he’s gone over the edge, he’s only twenty-nine. Maybe they need to find a young defensive midfield player, find someone to fill that void. But I still feel Liverpool will get in the top four and I also believe that next year they’ll be challenging again.”

Naby Keita’s £52.75m move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018 has not worked out with the Guinea international out of contract in the summer.

And Redknapp predicted that “erratic” Liverpool midfielder Keita would be substituted at half-time in their draw against Palace on Saturday.

Redknapp said at half-time: “Keita’s been booked, I’d be surprised if he starts the second half. He’s going to get sent off. Because he’s erratic, it’s summed up his Liverpool career, and I think they will probably bring on Harvey Elliott.”

And Klopp did exactly that, bringing Elliott on for Keita at the interval. Redknapp said: “He’d been booked but I have to be honest, even his performance you might have thought about changing. Liverpool need someone who is going to make a bit of a difference.

“They need a spark, and someone who can use the ball in tight areas. I’m a big fan of [Elliott].”
