Scrum-half Richie Rees has become the latest player to confirm he is leaving the Cardiff Blues at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old, who has nine Wales caps to his name, has found himself shuffled down the pecking order at regional and international level by Lloyd Williams, who beat Rees to a place in Warren Gatland's World Cup squad.

And the former London Irish and Ospreys half-back has made the decision to seek a new challenge and follow the likes of Gethin Jenkins, Casey Laulala, Rhys Thomas and Dan Parks through the exit door at Cardiff City Stadium.

Rees, who has yet to reveal his next club, said in a Blues statement: "I've had a fantastic time at the Blues since joining in 2007 and there have been many highlights.

"In particular winning both the EDF Energy & Amlin Challenge Cups, and the unforgettable Heineken Cup semi-final penalty shootout versus Leicester.

"Cardiff Blues are currently in a transition period and I believe now is the right time to throw myself into a new challenge.

"There's a great group of boys at the Blues and I really enjoy training with them every day.

"I'd like to thank all of the supporters who have been great with me since joining, and Dai Young for his contribution to my career. I look forward to ending the season well with the Blues.

"I'm currently considering various options for next season and will confirm my destination in the forthcoming weeks."

Prop Jenkins, who won his third Grand Slam with the national side in Saturday's success against France, is to join Toulon while centre Laulala and fly-half Parks join Munster and Connacht respectively. Hooker Thomas has agreed to join former Blues' boss Young at Wasps.
