Reggie Bush to receive millions from Los Angeles Rams after St. Louis jury verdict

Nearly three years after former NFL running back Reggie Bush suffered a knee injury at the former Edwards Jones Dome in St. Louis, an injury suffered due to his falling on a strip of exposed concrete behind his team’s bench, a St. Louis jury has awarded Bush millions of dollars.

Specifically, the Rams (and former tenant of the Edwards Jones Dome), were ordered to pay Bush the money. And since the Rams have moved to Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Rams will pay Bush $4.95 million in compensatory damages and $7.5 million in punitive damages.

“Reggie lost his ability to do what he loved, and to bargain for a contract that he worked his entire life for,” said Bush’s lawyer Tim Cronin. “These players get chewed up. They only have so many chances.”

The lawsuit, which was first filed by Bush in 2016, took shape because of the injury Bush suffered in 2015. Carrying the ball in his right hand against the St. Louis Rams, Bush was shoved out of bounds. He came to a stop as the turf led to the exposed concrete strip, but he slipped concrete, and immediately grabbed his left knee.

Bush tore the lateral meniscus in said knee, which he said was critical to his failing to receiving more money the following season.

The trial for the case began last week in St. Louis’ Circuit Court, where jurors viewed video clips of Bush’s injury. To the contrary, Rams lawyers argued Bush may have suffered the injury before reaching the concrete.

After playing 13 games for Buffalo in 2016, Bush retired from football. At age 33, he is an analyst with the NFL Network.
