LIVERPOOL have reportedly snapped up former Saints youngster Oludare Olufunwa after his release from St Mary’s last season.

According to the Livepool Echo, the 21-year-old has moved to the Reds following a short trial on Merseyside and will provide extra competition for Barry Lewtas's under-21s.

The Reds have since added a player profile for Olufunwa to their website, which reads: “Oludare Olufunwa joined Liverpool in August 2022 following a trial. The centre-half was previously with Southampton who he joined at an early age.

“He was first spotted by the Saints at a local soccer school. Dare, as he is known as, will start academy life with the under-21s in 2022-23.”

Olufunwa had captained the B team while at Saints, as well as training with the senior squad. He was part of the released players on the club’s retained list earlier this summer.

Posting on social media after his exit, Olufunwa said: “Thank you @SouthamptonFC

for the past 11 years.

“I’ve worked with so many amazing staff members and players who’ve helped me grow as a player and person, and given me so many experiences I’ll never forget!

“Love to all the fans for giving me so much support on my journey too!”
