Relebohile Mofokeng transfer latest as Orlando Pirates boss has say on Rangers linked star

Relebohile Mofokeng's manager has had his say on his future amid links to Rangers that won't go away.

The 19-year-old winger has burst onto the scene with Orlando Pirates over the last year or so and has attracted attention from European scouts. He has also starred for South Africa under-20s and has been on the brink a call-up to the full national team under manager Hugo Broos.

However, Broos cautioned him against a big so soon in his fledgling career and warned about previous South Africans who have moved too soon. Mofokeng responded to that by saying he will have a chat with the Belgian manager and take it from there.

Now, Pirates boss Jose Riveiro has broken his own silence on the matter. He seemed to oppose the view that the player is too young.

He told Radio 2000’s Game On : “I think usually things happen for a reason. And I’m sure that Rele will, if he is not currently attracting the interests of many other teams and leagues.

“I just hope he gets the right call and opportunity because not every opportunity is right. And that’s a difficult thing to decide or choose.

"But I’m sure that the time to make decisions for Rele and his environment will come in the future. We are here to help him also to do the right thing.

“I don’t think the right opportunity or time is related to his age or experience. It’s just about finding the right place to go to or stay. Who knows?”

Broos had said: "This is not the right moment to go overseas. He played what? 18 games, he doesn’t have international experience, nothing. What I said about Mailula I repeat it now to Mofokeng; Stay at Pirates.

"Play another season here in South Africa with the Champions League maybe hopefully and then he will be a better player. You see what happened with Mailula. He went to Toronto and there were two former Italian internationals, what are you going to do with a little guy from South Africa there?

"He didn’t play many games he is on the bench. What does he learn there? I hope the agent of Mofokeng is more clever than the one of Mailula and he decides what is important for the player not important for him. Let’s see what happens and I hope that he stays at Pirates, that he plays another season."
