Reo Hatate Japan position trial could see Celtic star like new Brendan Rodgers summer transfer

Reo Hatate was like a new signing for Celtic this season - and it could be the same all over again next term if his efforts on Japan duty are any indicator.

Brendan Rodgers' side are busy with recruitment plans for the new campaign and the summer window work is currently being done in the background now. Hatate, though, could potentially help with that after being deployed in two different roles whilst away with his international squad. The midfielder has been tried and tested by manager Hajime Moriyasu as an attacking midfielder as well as a winger in a bid to fit the player in.

Matt O'Riley is expected to earn transfer interest this summer which might see Hatate asked to play more advanced while Paulo Bernardo could be brought in permanently to sit slightly deeper in the Japanese star's more natural slot.

But while eyebrows may have been raised at Hatate's demands from the boss, the player himself was pleased to take on fresh tasks to keep him on his toes.

"I think it's great to take on new challenges," he said. "I hope to keep my head on straight both individually and as a team, and express that on the pitch."
