Report: Hamstring injury to cause Bills' LeSean McCoy to miss Sunday's game

The Buffalo Bills have been one of the hottest teams in the NFL over the last few weeks, stringing together four straight wins after an 0-2 start that led to rumblings over Rex Ryan’s job security.

But if the Bills are going to win in Miami against their AFC East rivals this week, it apparently will be without standout running back LeSean McCoy:

McCoy suffered a hamstring injury during practice on Wednesday. When Ryan met with the media on Thursday, he sounded an optimistic tone that Buffalo would have McCoy in uniform against the Dolphins.

“We’ll see how he progresses the next couple of days,” Ryan said “Hopefully we get him back [Sunday].”

Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn is preaching patience; last year, McCoy suffered a hamstring injury in training camp and it lingered into the regular season, causing the back to miss two games in October.

“I don’t want to do what we did last year,” Lynn said on Thursday. “Going in, playing 85 percent, re-injuring the hamstring and then this thing lingers all year. We just want to get him well and back on the field.”

McCoy has been stellar during Buffalo’s win streak, with 73 carries for 470 yards (6.4 YPC) and five touchdowns.

WIthout McCoy, the Bills may turn to third-year back Mike Gillislee at the position.
