Report: Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield won't attend NFL Draft

Baker Mayfield won’t attend the NFL Draft, NBC 5 in Dallas reports.

The former Oklahoma quarterback and projected first-round pick told NBC reporter Newy Scruggs that he won’t be at April’s draft, which will be hosted by the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas this year. Scruggs didn’t report on why Mayfield will be absent or what he plans to do instead.

Last year’s No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett did not attend the draft. In 2015, quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota also both declined to take the stage and shake hands with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Mayfield is expected to be among the top five quarterbacks taken off the board.
