Report: Logan Ryan joins Giants on one-year, $7.5 million deal

The New York Giants may have found an answer to their cornerback troubles. The team has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million deal with cornerback Logan Ryan, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Ryan, 29, comes to the Giants after three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Prior to the 2017 season, Ryan signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the team. He began his career with the New England Patriots, where he won two Super Bowls.

Giants lost talent in the defensive backfield

While the Giants entered the offseason with some promise at the position, the team lost two cornerbacks over the past couple weeks. Former first-round pick DeAndre Baker was charged with four counts of armed robbery in August after he allegedly robbed a party. The Giants haven’t released Baker, 22, but the team told Baker to stay away while he deals with the situation.

On top of that, cornerback Sam Beal opted out of the 2020 NFL season. The Giants selected Beal, 24, in the third round of the supplemental draft in 2018. He started three games for the team last season.

The team also lost second-round pick Xavier McKinney to a fractured foot. McKinney is expected to miss at least 10 weeks due to the injury.

While Ryan has played defensive back over his career, he reportedly was trying to hook on as a safety this offseason.

It’s unclear whether the Giants will use Ryan as a cornerback or a safety in 2020.

Ryan started all 16 games for the Titans last season, picking off four passes and making 73 solo tackles.
