Report: NBA closing in on second bubble in Chicago for the 8 teams that won't play in Orlando
If you desperately needed to see the Golden State Warriors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers one more time in 2020, now is your chance. The NBA is reportedly closing in on a second bubble that would allow the eight teams not invited to Orlando to play games against each other, according to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan.
That bubble would reportedly take place in Chicago. The league is aiming for September.

Seven of the eight teams involved in the second bubble participated in a call Thursday to go discuss the Chicago plan. The New York Knicks were the only team without a representative on the call, according to MacMullan. The league held the call to gauge whether teams would send players if the league implemented another bubble.
The teams included in the Chicago bubble will be expected to follow the same rules as the teams at Walt Disney World. Some teams have expressed frustration over the inability to hold camps in their home arenas, but both Adam Silver and NBPA director Michele Roberts are reportedly opposed to that idea.
For those questioning why the league feels compelled to try for a second bubble, especially one made up of the worst teams in the NBA, Detroit Pistons coach Dwane Casey explained the benefits of the situation. He told MacMullan the second bubble would allow teams to come together and build camaraderie. Casey also argued the long layoff could negatively impact players’ careers.
While the league is considering a second bubble, there’s no guarantee it will happen. Some of the teams involved want to take more time before they sign on. There’s some fear those teams could pull their support for a Chicago bubble if coronavirus cases spike in the Florida bubble in the coming weeks.
