Odell Beckham Jr. agrees to terms with Rams

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Rams.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news Thursday afternoon.

As the news broke, conflicting reports stated that Beckham was also still considering the Green Bay Packers. He ultimately decided on signing with Los Angeles. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the deal is for one year.

The Rams then announced that the deal is official.

The Cleveland Browns released Beckham last week after two-plus seasons that saw him fail to reach the production that made him a three-time Pro Bowler with the New York Giants. He reportedly had chemistry issues with quarterback Baker Mayfield and suffered an ACL tear in 2020. Pinpointing the reason for his drop in production wasn't evident. He cleared waivers Tuesday and entered free agency, where he reportedly had multiple suitors.

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson reported that Beckham wanted to clear waivers and sign with a contender of his choice. He joins a 7-2 Rams team that trails the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals by one game for the NFL's best record.

OBJ joins already loaded passing attack

He'll face stiff competition for touches on an offense that ranks fourth in the NFL in yards per game and third in passing yards. Cooper Kupp leads the NFL with 1,019 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while No. 2 receiver Robert Woods has tallied 556 yards and four touchdowns through nine games. Beckham projects as the No. 3 receiving option in a passing game helmed by Matthew Stafford.

In six games with the Browns this season, Beckham tallied 17 catches for 232 yards without a touchdown. His best season in Cleveland was his first in 2019, where he caught 74 passes for 1,035 yards with four touchdowns.

At his peak with the Giants, Beckham was one of the NFL's most dynamic offensive players. He tallied at least 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons in the league. If he can still flash that type of talent at 29, the Rams have added a dangerous weapon to an already loaded arsenal.

Beckham is the second recent high-profile acquisition by the Rams, who traded for former Denver Broncos All-Pro pass rusher Von Miller prior to the trade deadline. Miller, who has yet to play a game for the Rams, joined the effort to recruit Beckham to Los Angeles. He appeared to be pleased on Instagram Thursday with the news of Beckham's arrival.
