Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen reportedly pulled out of the FA Cup final against Liverpool despite not being injured.

Thomas Tuchel’s side eventually lost 6-5 on penalties after the match ended 0-0 after extra-time with both sides missing good chances to win the game.

And Christensen was not part of the squad for the match in a blow to the Blues’ preparations with Thiago Silva playing through the pain of a knee problem.

The Denmark international will leave Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer after a decade at Stamford Bridge with a move to Barcelona reportedly sealed.

And the Daily Mail claim that Christensen ‘shocked Chelsea team-mates by pulling out of the FA Cup final’ just hours before kick-off with his move to the La Liga giants imminent.

The newspaper add that Christensen ‘was not injured but told head coach Thomas Tuchel on the morning of the game he did not want to be considered for the Wembley showdown because he did not feel ready to play’.

His ‘unexpected withdrawal’ has left his Chelsea team-mates ‘perplexed and shocked’ in a decision that was described as ‘a major blow to Chelsea’s plans’ for the final.

The Daily Mail continues: ‘Sources close to Christensen have indicated that the defender felt unwell in the days prior to the final, something that the Blues star relayed to his head coach before deciding on the morning of the game that he wasn’t physically ready to play.’

After the match, Tuchel was asked whether it was possible to catch up with Liverpool in one transfer window, to which he replied: “It’s maybe impossible, I have to say, maybe impossible.

“They are improving their squad in every transfer window they have. It seems like we are losing key players. We are losing, of course, Toni, we’re losing Andreas. So this is tough and we already have a gap to close.”

On Todd Boehly’s imminent takeover, Tuchel added: “He has big money for the club, so I don’t think he is keen to drop the ambition.

“That would be a big surprise, so no, I don’t doubt this.

“We will share our opinion in more detail over the next weeks and I am sure he is as ambitious to build a competitive Chelsea for the highest level.”
