ORI Romeu has been linked with a return back to Catalonia according to reports in Spain.

Radio Girona state that La Liga outfit Girona are keen to bring the holding midfielder to Catalonia for the first time since he departed Barcelona in 2011.

30-year-old Romeu came through the ranks at Espanyol and Barcelona as a youngster, after being spotted playing for hometown side Ulldecona in the south of the autonomous region.

Whilst Romeu has never been capped by the Spanish national side, he has represented Catalonia once, despite them not being an officially recognised team by UEFA.

The former Chelsea man, who has been with Saints since 2015, started the first game of the season away at Spurs, before dropping to the bench for the visit of Leeds this weekend.

In seven seasons on the south coast, Romeu has made 255 appearances in red and white, after making his debut at home to Everton in August, 2015.

Girona are owned by the City Football Group, who also own Manchester City, the flagship side amongst a host of clubs across the world.

In recent years they have bounced between the first and second tiers of Spanish football, achieving promotion back to the top-flight via the play-offs this summer.
