Ukraine head to Dublin tonight to get their Nations League campaign underway against the Republic of Ireland, off the back of missing out on a place at the World Cup.

It has been something of a tour of the British Isles for the Ukrainians in this month’s internationals, beating Scotland in the play-off semi-final before an agonising defeat in Cardiff to Wales denied them a ticket to Qatar.

But it is a new tournament to focus on for Oleksandr Petrakov’s side with their hosts desperate to bounce back from a damaging result of their own.

The Republic of Ireland began their Nations League group stage by losing in Armenia and will need a result to help stave off early fears of relegation from the competition’s second-tier.
