Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has deleted his Instagram account.

Although initial reports suggested it was due to abuse he was receiving, according to the Manchester Evening News, his representatives have said it is actually due to ‘boredom’ with the site.

The Manchester United boss joined the social media network when he was appointed at Old Trafford back in 2016 and his first post was of his United contract, alongside the message: ‘Manchester United Football Club. The Theatre of Dreams.’.

After posting regularly at first, once the 2016/2017 season started his posts were infrequent, although he did advise his son, Jose Jr, not to respond to trolls who were abusing him.

Mourinho had 2.8 million followers on the site and shared a mixture of family and professional photos, however it became clear over the weekend that Mourinho was no longer active, with the message ‘the user cannot be found’ shown instead.

Mourinho’s style of football at United has drawn plenty of criticism from around the footballing world, as well as splitting the opinions of Red Devils supporters.

And there were plenty of fans who thought he had taken himself off the site due to abuse who expressed their dismay, although that does not appear to be the case.

He was bullish after the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, despite a lacklustre display and more doubts about whether he is the right man for the hotseat at Old Trafford.

“I congratulate them but I don’t think they deserved to win,” Mourinho told the BBC.

“I am Manchester United manager and I have to be respectful, not just because they are my previous club but because they are the opponents today and I think we deserved to win.

“Every defeat hurts but I go home with the feeling we gave everything. No regrets.”
