Revealed: Pogba explains poor form for Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has blamed his World Cup exertions for his inconsistent start to the Premier League season.

Pogba took an extended break after winning the trophy with France, just four weeks before the start of the season. While he played and impressed in his first game against Leicester City, he did not complete the whole game.

Defeats to Brighton and Spurs followed, with Pogba putting in sub-par performances in both games.

United rebounded last Sunday with a victory over Burnley, but Pogba missed a penalty which would have made for a calmer conclusion as Marcus Rashford was sent off.

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany before his national side’s Nations League game against Germany, Pogba sparked speculation over his United future, saying: “My future is currently in Manchester.

“I still have a contract. I’m playing there at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months?”

Speaking about his relationship with coach Jose Mourinho, he said: “We have a pure coach-player relationship. That’s how it is.

“One thing I can assure you: I will always give 100 percent, regardless for which coach. I always give everything for United – I cannot say more.”

After the game, Pogba was less provocative. When he was asked about his future, he appeared to be more conciliatory, and said he needed to improve his fitness:

“It’s not me who’s talking” he said.

“I’m trying to work on myself physically. I got back late, so I’m trying to perform as well as possible.

“I’m just trying to do my job and for the rest there’ll always be talk.”
