Daniel Ricciardo has revealed he will get his first taste of driving the RB19 shortly after the British Grand Prix in July.

It has been five years since Ricciardo last climbed into a Red Bull car to head out on track with the RB14 serving as the last car of his first stint at the team.

Since then, Ricciardo has driven two other constructors’ cars in the form of Renault and McLaren but is back in familiar surroundings for 2023 having rejoined Red Bull as the team’s third driver.

His driving time has so far been limited to the sim but in a few months, he will get behind the wheel of the real thing.

Speaking to ESPN before the Miami Grand Prix, Ricciardo revealed he will perform a Pirelli tyre test at Silverstone following the British Grand Prix in July.

“I’ve been in the simulator, but I will drive the RB19 in July after the Silverstone race – I’m getting a Pirelli test,” Ricciardo said.

“Then maybe I’ll get another one after Monza as well in September. A couple of months away [and] I’ll get to feel what it’s like.”

Ricciardo will also drive a Red Bull F1 car around the Nordschleife in September as part of a marketing event but the team have yet to reveal what model he will be driving.

The RB19 is certainly an upgrade to the RB14 that Ricciardo was used to having currently won every race in the 2023 season but the Australian said that even in the sim, it felt familiar to him.

“I’m certainly excited to drive a fast car, but also a car that maybe still feels familiar for me – it does a little bit in the sim. But I’m just excited to drive again and to just try to remind a team obviously I once had a lot of success with that I can still turn a fast lap.

“I’m definitely still in a really good place – I’m very happy with this [his reserve duties]. Does it mean that I’m happy doing this for the next two or three years? Probably not. But I think for this year it’s certainly a good thing for me.

“Right now, I do want to get back on the grid next year. I do feel like there’s certainly some unfinished business. I’m staying like in the loop and staying prepared and whatever.”
