Ricky Hatton took to Twitter on Thursday morning to inform fans of a return to the ring on July 2. The now 43-year-old retired back in 2012, with his final fight coming in the defeat against Vyacheslav Senchenko. Before that, Hatton wasn't in action until three years earlier, when he famously took on Manny Pacquiao.

At his prime, Hatton held multiple world championships at light welterweight and welterweight, and was named fighter of the year in 2005 by Ring magazine.

Now 17 years later, including a decade of inactivity, Hatton will re-enter the ring for an exhibition match against Marco Antonio Barrera.

The duo will go head-to-head in an eight-round event in Manchester.

Antonio Barrera has also been out of action for over a decade, with the Mexican's last fight coming in 2011, two years after his loss to fellow Briton Amir Khan.

Hatton tweeted on Thursday morning, "I can confirm my return to the ring. "Join me for a huge party night - with top music acts - in Manchester on July 2. It's not how you fall, it's how you rise…"
