Rio Ferdinand has claimed he has to “mute” Jamie Carragher whenever the Liverpool legend gives his opinion on winning Premier League titles.

Manchester United’s failure to mount a title challenge after signing Cristiano Ronaldo led to Carragher arguing with Roy Keane during Sky Sports’ coverage of Sunday’s draw with Chelsea - and he has continued to take aim at the Red Devils.

The ex-defender previously joked that “Carrick’s at the wheel” following the win over Villarreal, a tweet which Ferdinand replied to on Monday.

Ferdinand told his YouTube channel: “Carragher shouldn’t really talk about winning leagues.

“He’s never done it. He doesn’t know what it means. He doesn’t know how to do it - he’s never navigated a team to that point to win a league.

“So I find it very difficult when he speaks with such conviction about winning leagues. He should stick to cup competitions, the moment he starts talking about winning leagues, I just mute it.”

Carragher insisted he was focusing on the role of Ronaldo, who was benched at Chelsea to spark the row with Keane in the Stamford Bridge studio.

He replied: “Not talking titles but the deal for Ronaldo to Man Utd which you arranged.

“No [Premier League title] for me but Sky like my opinions! No [trophy] in your career without [Alex Ferguson] and when you stopped winning PL at [Manchester United] you tried to move to Chelsea so please stop giving it the big MU fan one!

Ferdinand, however, claimed he was merely seeking a reaction from Carragher and posted an image referring to the reply as the ‘bite of the year’.

He laughed: “Calm down… It’s all love. Just wanted a nibble. [You] coming on the show next Monday?”

Carragher shot back: “Yes, as long as you don’t mute me!”
