New Liverpool recruit Rio Ngumoha demonstrated his talents with a virtuoso piece of brilliance as he made his bow for the Reds' Under-18s side at the Academy.

The 16-year-old, who was brought in from Chelsea this summer, arrives on Merseyside with a burgeoning reputation as a bright prospect. Having arrived with fellow new boy Alvin Ayman, the pair could not present Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's team from slipping to a defeat on the day.

The young Reds fell to a 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the U18 Premier League North game at Kirkby, with Ngumoha named among the substitutes. However, the starlet was able to catch the eye during his 16 minutes from the bench during a bright cameo as he made an instant impression on the left-wing.

The teenager went on a mazy run with his first touches of the ball after being sent on as he beat his opposition defender with a show of pace and strength. Making it all the way to the edge of the Rovers box, Ngumoha then was able to stand up an inviting cross at the far post as the Reds very nearly scored from the opportunity.

Eventually the effort from his teammate was blocked by a Blackburn defender as his strike went wide for a corner-kick. However, this moment of magic from the new Reds addition will leave supporters excited for what is to come from the prospect in the coming months and years.

Taking to social media, one fan was left convinced of the prodigy's merits already, as they said: "He's such a brilliant talent, we are so blessed," while another cautioned against the temptation of lavishing too much praise on young shoulders, saying: People should let him develop and stop applying pressure."

A third said: "Almost created a goal out of nothing. Woww," while another admitted that they could see elements of Sadio Mane's game in the youngster's play after watching him in his first outing, adding: "Not trying to overhype him at all but could we finally have our mane replacement."

Ngumoha was brought in from Chelsea with no compensation fee having been agreed for the ace's signature of yet, with a six-figure fee expected to be commanded for him, according to The Athletic. The highly-tipped forward already appeared for the Blues' Under-21s team at the tender age of 15.

Blackburn pulled off an impressive win on the road, with Jackson Shorrocks and Valentin Joseph the goalscorers for the visitors. The young Reds will be in action again on Tuesday with the U19 outfit due to face AC Milan in the first game of their UEFA Youth League opener campaign.
