Wests Tigers’ most capped player in history Robbie Farah has been appointed as Lebanon’s assistant coach ahead of this year’s World Cup.
The former hooker retired at the end of the 2019 season, bringing down the curtain to a 17-year career in the NRL.
He played 274 first-grade games in total for Wests Tigers, including 149 as captain, while also playing 26 games for the South Sydney Rabbitohs as part of his 300-game career.
Farah also played eight tests for Australia and won seven caps for Lebanon. He also featured in 16 games for the New South Wales State of Origin side.
He was part of the coaching side for Lebanon’s mid-season clash against Malta, with head coach Michael Cheika forced to watch from Argentina following flight cancellations.
Lebanon will feature in Group C of this year’s World Cup tournament in England. They open their campaign against New Zealand at Halliwell Jones Stadium before facing Ireland and then Jamaica.
Robbie Farah to assist Cheika at World Cup
Farah shared on social media: “Representing and captaining Lebanon will forever be one of the highlights of my career. The 2017 World Cup in particular was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life.
“To have the opportunity now to come back and help out Cheika in the World Cup and pass on some knowledge to the next generation coming through is something i’m looking forward to.
“We’ve seen players like Adam Doueihi and Jacob Kiraz begin their first grade journeys by coming through the national team. There’s a lot of young Lebanese talent out there ready to take their opportunity.”
Lebanon automatically qualified for the RLWC2021 having reached the quarter finals of the previous Rugby League World Cup in 2017.
