Inverness have extended a loan spell for Arsenal striker Philip Roberts until the end of the season.

Arsenal revealed on Friday that the 18-year-old had prolonged his stay, which was due to expire in January.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has scored one goal in 12 games for Caley Thistle, who will move second in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League if they beat Hibernian on Saturday.

Although Roberts has not been prolific, he has helped Caley Thistle become the surprise team of the SPL season and supported fellow striker Billy McKay, who has 10 goals to his name.

Four of those, including a winner at Celtic Park, came in November to help him win Clydesdale Bank player of the month.

McKay, who was called up for Northern Ireland too, said: "It's been a good month and I just want to keep it going, really, because if I keep scoring hopefully I can get in more squads and get more awards.

"We are playing well as a team and creating chances and scoring goals, and long may that continue, and hopefully I'm a big part of that."

Inverness also won at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen last month and secured a William Hill Scottish Cup replay against Ross County with a stoppage-time equaliser last week.

Hibs arrive in second place in the SPL and McKay is not fazed.

"We have come a long way as a team and beat teams above us in the league so we are going into this game confident," he said. "We have improved a lot and so have Hibs, so it should be a good match."
