Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says that the prospect of Luis Diaz getting any better it is “scary” as he is already “pretty special”.

The Colombia international swapped Porto for the Reds in the January transfer window for a fee that could rise to as much as £49m depending on potential add-ons.

Diaz has already fit into Jurgen Klopp’s side seamlessly as Liverpool continue their quest for an unprecedented Quadruple, having already won the League Cup earlier this season.

Klopp got it ‘spectacularly wrong’ against Villarreal by leaving out someone who played 11 mins

They are in the final of the Champions League and FA Cup, while they trail leaders Manchester City by just a point in the race for the Premier League title and Diaz has played his part with five goals and three assists in all competitions since January.

And Robertson reckons Diaz – who scored a goal in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final victory over Villarreal on Tuesday – has fitted in at Liverpool “perfectly” and can’t wait to see the winger once he has fully acclimatised in England.

“He has been special. We’ve tried to help him as much as we can, all the players. We know how difficult it is coming in in January,” Robertson said.

“The coaches and everyone else have got him up to speed but he is a special, special player. The talent he has and the will to win – he just fits us perfectly.

“It was tough to take (Diogo) Jota off, I think he has been excellent this season, but Luis came on and made a big, big difference.

“He played on the left, started pushing them back, dribbling the ball and everything. A really good half from him.

“He’s been special since he came in and it’s been a pleasure to play with him. Hopefully he will only get better.

“With a full pre-season under his belt, I believe he will get better, which is scary, but what he has produced in the here and now is pretty special as well.”

Asked where he got his self-belief from, Diaz told UEFA’s YouTube channel on Wednesday: “From La Guajira. It comes from my roots. I always played football in my town, in my homeland.

“They are my characteristics, they have instilled in me several things that I have today and now I have grown much more. That’s my game.

“Each game is a revenge for always going out to look for more, I know what it costs and I have to take advantage of every moment, every minute I have.

“The rest is very important for what is to come.”
