Rocco Friel set for Hearts transfer exit as kid snubs other interest for English side

Hearts are set to lose youngster Rocco Friel with QPR seemingly winning the race for his services.

The young defender has been wanted by a number of clubs while the Jambos were keen to persuade him to commit his future to them too. The 17-year-old's deal is due to expire and that meant he was free to speak to interested clubs with a number down south interested.

And the Daily Record is now reporting that he has opted to go for QPR, turning down Derby County and Leicester City. Friel, a right-back who can also play in the centre, will reportedly sign a contract with the English Championship side as soon as his deal with the Tynecastle men is up.

It's claimed he will pen a four-year deal with Marti Cifuentes' side and Hearts will be due compensation. Friel signed a professional deal with the Jam Tarts in 2022 and has been part of Liam Fox's B team over the past season. He is a Scotland under-19s international.

It has also been reported in recent days that 15-year-old attacker Alfie Hutchison will quit Hearts in order to sign for Rangers. It's better news elsewhere though with Gregor Crookston and Kenzi Nair two academy products who have decided to extend their stay with the club.
