Rocco Vata admits his time at Celtic was cut short 'earlier than expected' after committing his future to Watford.

The talented attacker, 19, became the latest prodigy to quit Parkhead for pastures new yesterday when he signed a four-year deal with Watford. The Republic of Ireland Under-19 starlet came through the Hoops youth ranks after joining the club when he was just seven-years-old. Vata was a standout for the B side in the Lowland League and earned his senior debut under Ange Postecoglou.

Yet despite being promoted to the first-team, his opportunitfies remained limited and with his contract expiring at the end of last season, the youngster attracted major interest from clubs in England and Italy. Celts chiefs attempted to tie him down on a long-term deal but Vata decided to pursue his career elsewhere in search of more senior minutes.

Now, the highly-rated prospect will hope to make the breakthrough at Vicarage Road this season but in a farewell post to Celtic, Vata confessed his time with the Scottish champions didn't pan out the way he wanted.

He wrote on Instagram: "My 12 years at Celtic comes to an end earlier than expected. Would like to thank all the staff I've worked with throughout the years for developing me into the player and person I am today. And the fans who believed in me and supported me. I wish Celtic all the best next year."

Celts will be due a £230,000 training compensation fee for Vata, who was out-of-contract.
