New Rodri injury claims emerge as Man City handed huge update after Arsenal incident
Manchester City have been given fresh hope that Rodri's injury is not as bad as many first feared after the dramatic 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
The City midfielder suffered what appeared to be a knee injury midway through the first half of Sunday's Premier League clash against Arsenal. City were held to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium by Arsenal with John Stones rescuing a late point after the Gunners went ahead.
Just 20 minutes into the contest, Rodri went down after a challenge from Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey. The City midfielder was unable to continue and was substituted and replaced by Mateo Kovacic.
The match was Rodri's first start for Arsenal's title rivals this season after being given an extended break following a busy campaign last term and reaching the Euro 2024 final with Spain. Now Pep Guardiola and Co. face a nervous wait to discover the extent of the injury.
According to Spanish news outlet El Larguero, further tests have been carried out on Rodri and have ruled out anything "serious" from the injury in a major boost for Guardiola. The report states that further assessments will be needed to determine how long the Spaniard will be on the sidelines in recovery, but it has been stated that City and Rodri are "more optimistic" than they were on Sunday.
The injury to Rodri means that City still have several players on the sidelines with fitness issues. Kevin De Bruyne, Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb all missed the draw with Arsenal through injury.
