Former Indian bowler Zaheer Khan said that Indian opener Rohit Sharma adjusted his game according to the team’s need.

On Saturday, Rohit went on to complete his eighth Test hundred, first in overseas conditions and it came at a point when India needed to build a big inning in order to set a formidable target for England. Rohit scored 127 from 256 balls, his innings was laced with 14 fours and a six.

In the course of innings, the opener also completed his 3000 Test runs and also surpassed former Indian captain Rahul Dravid’s tally of scoring eight international centuries in England. With a clever mindset, Rohit tackled England’s new-ball pair of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson and once he got settled he maintained the flow of runs off his bat.

Zaheer feels that Rohit cleverly decided to select the balls he wanted to hit and left the unwanted ones and the Mumbai batsman captivates on the bounce balls.

“His intentions were clear. He has adapted his game according to the English conditions. While facing the new ball, he is trying to set himself up at the crease that enables him to leave the deliveries outside the off-stump and pick the balls which he can target,” Zaheer Khan told Cricbuzz.

“The Oval pitch offers bounce and Rohit Sharma relishes when the ball comes at pace. He has moulded his game according to India’s needs and scored a brilliant ton,” he added.

Rohit Sharma ton helps India gain a 171-run lead

India are currently leading by 171 runs with skipper Virat Kohli (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (9) batting at the crease. The series is tied at 1-1 and India will vie to gain the lead.

Rohit, who recently attained his career’s best ICC Test ranking (5) ahead of the fourth Test, is India’s leading run-scorer with 368 runs at an average of 52.57.
