Having been priced out of a move for Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Roma boss Jose Mourinho is now reportedly considering a move for out-of-favour Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager is expected to be given significant funds to improve his squad this summer after guiding the Serie A outfit to their first major European trophy when they beat Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final.

Mourinho was often critical of the size of his squad throughout the season and is expected to lose Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Inter Milan, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles has returned to Arsenal after his six-month loan.

Several reports suggested that Wan-Bissaka was very much on Mourinho’s radar. However, United wanted to recoup much of the £50million they splashed out on the right-back in 2019.

But now, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Bellerin has become a much more affordable target.

The report states that Arsenal will demand around £18m for the Spain international. That fairly low figure is down to Bellerin only having a year left on his contract.

The 27-year-old spent the season on loan at Real Betis and impressed in making 32 appearances for the LaLiga outfit.

Another Bellerin loan could be on cards

The report does add that the Gunners could let him leave on loan again but prefer an outright sale.

The north London club are well stocked in the right-back department. Takehiro Tomiyasu has impressed, when fit, during his first season at the club while Cedric Soares is a solid backup.

If Arsenal can agree the sale of Bellerin then the funds will almost certainly be reinvested in the squad.

Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in a new midfielder and striker at the very least, with European football back on the agenda at The Emirates.

As for Roma, they set to cash in on playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo in order to bolster Mourinho’s war chest.
