Premier League side Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brighton winger Leandro Trossard, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Belgium international has missed all of the Seagulls’ matches this month after Robert de Zerbi banned him from first-team training with tensions between the manager and player flaring up this month.

Trossard wants to leave the Amex Stadium as soon as possible, with Arsenal and Tottenham reportedly interested, and his agent accused the Brighton boss of “bullying” the 28-year-old.

His agent Josy Comhair released a statement last week, it read: “After the World Cup there was an altercation at training between Leandro and another player over an inanity. Since then, the trainer has not spoken to Leandro, which is obviously not conducive to the atmosphere, as well as performance-wise.

“Leandro still was a first-eleven player against Southampton and Arsenal but against Everton he was on the bench. In the five substitutions that took place then, he was also not among them and this is without any explanation.

“In the run-up to the match against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, Leandro had already reported calf problems twice. This was the reason he stopped training. This was in consultation with the medical staff. Through the physical trainer, Leandro learned that he had to train separately.

“Last Monday the trainer then grounded Leandro in the group and indicated that he did not want to see him anymore. A trainer who has not communicated directly with his player for four weeks is truly incomprehensible.

“It is also the trainer who has indicated several times that a transfer is the most reasonable solution. It is therefore important that Brighton cooperates with a potential transfer, which is beneficial for both parties.”

On Trossard, De Zerbi said earlier this week: “Nothing serious happened with Trossard. But recently, he didn’t give 100 per cent in training and on matchday, that’s it on my side.

“Football deserves respect. I don’t have to apologise for anything.”

De Zerbi added: “Maybe his agent fancies selling him for a lower transfer fee… surely, Trossard didn’t tell me the truth.

“Everyone in the dressing room knows how things went. But if Trossand wants to rejoin us with the right attitude, I am happy to coach him.”

Trossard is out of contract at the end of the season but Brighton have the option of a further year but Romano now claims that Arsenal are very close to wrapping up a deal for the Brighton winger.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Arsenal have opened talks to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton, negotiations are advanced with official bid ready for permanent move. Personal terms already agreed — talks will continue to get deal done soon.”
