Romelu Lukaku has publicly apologised for the controversial interview he gave to Italian media a number of weeks ago.

The Chelsea striker caused a storm by professing his love for former club Inter Milan and admitting he was frustrated about how he was being used by manager Thomas Tuchel.

While the 28-year-old was dropped for the draw with Liverpool on Sunday, Tuchel has since stressed how committed his big summer signing is to the cause.

Speaking in a video posted on the club’s official Twitter feed, Lukaku said: “To the fans, I’m sorry for the upset that I caused.

“You guys know the connection that I have with this club since my teenage years, I totally understand you guys being upset.

“Obviously, it’s up to me to restore your trust and I’ll do my best to show commitment everyday on the training ground and in the games, trying to make sure that we win games.

“Also to the manager, I apologise and to my teammates and the board because I think it was not the right moment and I want to move on from this and make sure that we start winning football games and that I perform for the team in the best manner.!
