Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has made his feelings on the Raheem Sterling saga clear after 'liking' an Instagram post uploaded by Rio Ferdinand in support of the ex-Manchester City winger.

Sterling found himself front and centre on Sunday afternoon despite not playing for Chelsea in their curtain raiser with his former side. The 29-year-old was omitted from the matchday squad by head coach Enzo Maresca and the decision prompted Sterling's representatives to react with a pre-match statement.

The player's camp stated it was "our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend's fixture in some capacity," adding "we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation." Queue the media storm as ex-players, pundits and general observers continue to have their say.

Sterling now faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. He signed for Chelsea from City in 2022.

Lukaku, subject to transfer interest himself this summer, has not directly broken silence on the matter. However, a snap-shot on social media has done enough to add further glare and attention to the situation.

In promoting his 'Rio Presents' channel, Ferdinand uploaded a short video clip showing him discussing Sterling and speculating what might have happened behind the scenes. The former Manchester United star added a caption to his post, which read: "Chelsea treatment of @sterling7 is WILD...

"Creating issues in their own dressing room surely?!!" Ferdinand's take on the saga is understandable enough given his status in the game and as a media figure, but there was a notable 'like' from Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku was shown among nearly 5,000 accounts to 'like' the video and it has not gone unnoticed on social media. The 31-year-old striker, who has spent the entirety of Sterling's time at Chelsea out on loan, is tipped to join Napoli this summer on a permanent deal.
