Romelu Lukaku has reportedly sealed his return to Inter Milan on loan this summer after three-hour talks with Chelsea on Monday.

Lukaku has been blatant in his desire to return to the Serie A side after a miserable season back at Stamford Bridge, in which he scored just 15 goals in 44 appearances.

MAILBOX: Does Jurgen Klopp help Teflon Thomas Tuchel get away with Chelsea mistakes?

New Blues owner Todd Boehly was initially reticent to allow the £97.5m striker to leave but was convinced by manager Thomas Tuchel that it was the best solution for all parties.

And now Gazzetta dello Sport (via The Daily Mail) claim a deal has been struck after a three-hour video call between Inter and Chelsea.

The report claims Inter owner Steven Zhang has agreed to a loan package worth an initial £6m fee with an added £1.7m in potential bonuses.

It’s thought Lukaku – who expressed his desire to return to Inter ‘in the near future’ in a controversial interview in December – has been working to push through a return to the San Siro for over two months.

It’s claimed the Belgium international bypassed his agent Federico Pastorello to call Inter boss Simone Inzaghi on his birthday at 8.30am on April 5 to wish the coach many happy returns and ask: “Mister, what can I do to return to Inter?”

That reported call was just hours before Chelsea’s crunch Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid, which they lost 3-1, with Lukaku wasting a golden late chance for the Blues.

Lukaku’s depature will likely spark Chelsea into action in the transfer market, as Boehly and Tuchel look set to work in tandem to land new players, following the departures of chairman Bruce Buck and director Marina Granovskaia.

One of the forwards heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Manchester City star Raheem Sterling.

Sterling grabbed 17 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances for Man City across all competitions in 2021/22.

The England international was in and out of the team in the Premier League, starting 23 of their 38 games.

A report claims Sterling ‘is interested in joining Chelsea’ and he is a ‘top summer transfer target’ for Todd Boehly.

It is said that Man City ‘would prefer to recieve a fee for Sterling this summer’. They value him at between £50m and £60m.

They add that ‘Sterling is acutely aware that his next contract will be the most important of his career’ and that he has ‘doubts whether he is central to Pep Guardiola’s plans’.
