Ronaldinho has backed his former teammate Xavi to be a hit as the new boss of Barcelona.

Xavi was appointed by the Spanish club earlier this month after they decided to part ways with Ronald Koeman.

A legend of the club, the former midfielder had previously been working with Qatari club Al Sadd since 2019 but has moved to Barca after his release clause was met.

The 41-year-old is an iconic figure at the Nou Camp, playing 767 games and winning 25 titles with Barca in his 17 years in the first team, and he will take charge of his first game this weekend against Espanyol.

Some of that time was spent playing alongside Brazil legend Ronaldinho, who is convinced Xavi will be a hit as a manager, much as Pep Guardiola - the man who coached both during the club’s recent glory period - had last month.

“I think he will improve Barcelona because he’s a great coach,” Ronaldinho told his new official app.

“As a player, we’ve all seen his football, and as a coach he’s been very good.

“I hope things are good for him, and I hope that Barça will be there at the top again after a great year. All of us who love Barcelona hope so.”
