Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has endured a particularly difficult period of late; the Englishman has seen himself lose a starting XI spot before being reduced to small cameo appearances from the bench - In turn, rumours have circulated regarding a potential departure from Old Trafford.

However, speaking to FourFourTwo , footballing legend Ronaldinho remains convinced of Rooney's quality.

“There are many great players these days – Luis Suarez and Neymar, for example,” he states. “Among the English, I still like Wayne Rooney. He has skill, shoots well and protects the ball. He is steady – never on the ground. I have always liked his style."

Ronaldinho also reserved special praise for Rooney's teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic:

“It was great to play with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Milan, too. I have got a great deal of admiration for him, a nice friendship. He’s so confident in himself. I like it.”

While many United fans feel Rooney no longer warrants a place in Mourinho's team, and understandably so, it is important that the Red Devils captain is respected for his many accomplishments over the span of a glittering career.

Rooney has garnered winners medals for just about every top-flight competition, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup respectively.

Moreover, the Englishman has established himself as the quintessential well-rounded player. In addition to plundering record numbers of goals for both club and country, Rooney has also assisted 101 goals in the Premier League, second only to Ryan Giggs.
