Turkish side Galatasaray are reportedly plotting an ‘ambush’ to get Cristiano Ronaldo away from Man Utd as part of a ‘huge transfer’.
It is fair to say that Ronaldo’s grand return to Manchester United has not gone as well as he would have hoped.
Last season was good for him personally, as he netted 18 goals in the Premier League.
But United struggled on the whole as they slumbered down in sixth to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
Ronaldo made it clear how displeased he was by this failure in the summer as he looked to leave the club as he entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.
To his frustration, not many teams were in the running for the 37-year-old, who was desperate to sign for a club competing in the Champions League.
The likes of Chelsea and Napoli were linked with him in the summer but he remains a United player until January at the earliest.
Ronaldo’s situation has not improved after the international break as he was an unused substitute against Man City last weekend.
Erik ten Hag suggested that the decision not to bring on Ronaldo was made “out of respect” for the striker.
Ex-Aston Villa man Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks Ronaldo should look at going to “America, Saudi Arabia or China”:
“Ronaldo must be very angry at the moment at the fact he’s not starting games,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“Ronaldo wants to start games, he wants to score goals and wants to play in the Champions League. Everything that he wants, he’s not getting.
“It might come to the stage where in January and looks at the situation and thinks ‘You know what, maybe my time at the highest level is over’.
“It happens to everyone. Age catches up with everyone and you can’t defy age.
“He’s coming to the stage where he looks at it and thinks ‘Maybe I do go to America or Saudi Arabia or China’. Maybe it’s the time when Ronaldo looks at those options.
“Unless there are big injuries, he’s not going to start a Premier League game for Man United for a while.”
Ronaldo has been offered a fresh escape route. Turkish outlet Foto Mac are reporting that Galatasaray are plotting the ‘transfer of the centruy’.
The Turkish outfit are ‘waiting in ambush for the Portuguese superstar who has decided to leave Man Utd’.
It is said that they are ‘ready to mobilize all financial means’ to make Ronaldo to Galatasary happen.
Galatasary are not competing in the Champions League currently as they finished 13th in the Super Lig last term.
They currently sit joint top of the table after eight games and they will have to win the league to meet Ronaldo’s demands of qualifying for the Champions League.
