Ronda Rousey Didn’t Watch Miesha Tate Defeat Holly Holm Although Trilogy on Tap

Holly Holm captured the women’s bantamweight title at UFC 193 in November when she knocked out longtime champion Ronda Rousey at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

Plans for an immediate rematch were set into motion, but Holm didn’t want to sit out waiting for Rousey to recover and finish film projects. She wanted to stay active, and agreed to face perennial contender Miesha Tate in the UFC 196 co-main event. It was Holm’s first title defense.

Tate, who has twice lost to Rousey, defeated Holm by rendering her unconscious with a rear-naked choke in the final round of their title fight. Instead of a Holm-Rousey rematch, Tate will likely get a third chance to defeat “Rowdy.”

Reports indicated that Saturday’s pay-per-view event did excellent numbers, but one person that didn’t watch was Rousey.

“I texted Ronda, and Ronda didn’t know what happened. Ronda didn’t know. Ronda didn’t watch it,” said UFC president Dana White shortly after Saturday’s event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“She did not watch it. I texted her and she said, ‘What happened?’ I said, Miesha just choked her unconscious. She said, ‘Back to work for me,’ or something like that,” said White.

The UFC boss later told ESPN that Rousey is likely going to be Tate's first title defense.

“I think that Ronda now will now fight Miesha Tate for the title. That's what's gonna happen,” he said, talking to host Chael Sonnen and Gilbert Melendez. “That's what I said before this fight even happened. Whoever wins tonight will fight Ronda for the title.”

When that fight happens is another question altogether. It would be a blockbuster match-up to add to UFC 200 in July, but thus far, Rousey has indicated she'd like to return sometime in the Fall. White was noncommittal on when the fight might take place.
