Ronda Rousey's Return Might Be Short-Lived, as Retirement Looms

Dana White Says Ronda Rousey is Likely Done Fighting

It will have been more than a year since Ronda Rousey set foot in the Octagon when she returns at UFC 207 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas. She's finally on the comeback trail, but the former champ on Tuesday hinted that her return might be short-lived.

In an appearance on Ellen Degeneres' talk show, Rousey talked about her comeback, but when conversation shifted to how much longer she planned to fight, Rousey said, “I”m wrapping it up.”

Does that mean Rousey will be one and done after challenging Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight belt? Will the outcome of the fight determine whether or not she continues beyond 2016?

These are questions that remain to be answered and likely won't be answered until after the fight, but Rousey hinted that she'd fight beyond the Nunes match-up.

“This is definitely one of my last fights. Everyone better watch because the show isn’t going to be around forever,” she said.

Rousey became the UFC women's bantamweight champion without a bout in the Octagon when the promotion swallowed up Strikeforce, where she had also been the champ. She was 6-0 at that point, winning all of her bouts via armbar, and she didn't slow down once she stepped into the Octagon.

Rousey reeled off six more wins under the UFC banner, three of those via armbar, the others by way of TKO or knockout. That's when she ran into a Holly Holm head kick that turned out the lights in November of 2015. The bout with Nunes will be her first since then.

While Rousey said her return may not last long, she sounds as if she's finally rebounded from all the pressures of the fight game and the first loss of her career.

“I’ve been training twice a day since the beginning of August. I finally feel like I’m in super-ninja good mode,” Rousey told Degeneres.

While many questioned whether she would ever return, UFC president Dana White was more than willing to give Rousey all the time she wanted to recover. After all, as White has said on numerous occasions, Rousey wasn't solely recovering from her first loss, and in brutal fashion, but from three years of massive promotion, going wherever the traveling circus needed her to go whenever she was asked.

She earned a respite, but it now appears that Rousey is rested and ready to step back in the cage.

But catch the show while it's in town folks, remember, “the show isn't going to be around forever.”
