Rory MacDonald Considering Having Surgery on His Nose After Loss to Stephen Thompson

Welterweight contender Rory MacDonald has taken a fair amount damage in his last couple of fights, especially to his nose. In his UFC 189 rematch against welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, MacDonald's nose was shattered. In his UFC Fight Night 89 bout against Stephen Thompson on Satu rday, Macdonald suffered another broken nose.

“My nose needs surgery. I’m going to need some time,” he said during the event's post-fight press conference at TD Place Arena in Ottawa.

The nose injury came in the fifth and final round against “Wonderboy,” during an exchange, and MacDonald immediately recognized that his nose was broken.

“We were both trading a little bit,” he explained. “Something landed, and I felt the waterfall start, the familiar feeling.”

Suffering a broken nose is nothing new for MacDonald. It's an injury that he's had to endure several times. Frustrated, the Canadian doesn't know what to do to prevent it from happening again.

“I’ve broken it actually a couple of times before this fight. I have no idea what to do. I gave it time. It kept breaking. I don’t know if surgery is going to be the best route. I really just have to take time and at least look into surgery and see if that can make it stronger because time off didn’t do sh*t,” he said.
