Rory MacDonald Suffered Fractured Nose and Foot in UFC 189 Loss

UFC 189 Medical Suspensions: Chad Mendes and Rory MacDonald Out Up to 6 Months

Like movie remakes, rarely are rematches better than the original. Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald’s second fight at UFC 189 on Saturday defied the odds. Not only was it better than the first, it’s an immediate Fight of the Year candidate.

During the back-and-forth battle that ended with Lawler finishing the fight in the final round, MacDonald suffered a fractured foot and nose. The news comes from Fox Sports Live.

MacDonald stunned the champion on multiple occasions with head kicks. Lawler opened up a cut on the bridge of MacDonald’s nose early in their championship bout. But it was a stiff jab to the already damaged nose of MacDonald that prompted the end of the fight.

Following the event, both fighters were transported to the hospital for medical attention. Neither attended the post-fight press conference.
