Ross County avoid Premiership relegation as they breeze past Raith Rovers in playoff

Ross County have avoided the drop after a convincing 6-1 aggregate playoff win over Raith Rovers.

The Staggies held a narrow lead heading into the second-leg this afternoon after beating their opponents 2-1 at Stark's Park last week. Goals from Yan Dhanda and Jack Baldwin would give Don Cowie's side the advantage but it was made a tad nervy when Sam Stanton halved the deficit to take a slim chance to Dingwall this afternoon.

Cowie and County, however, would make light work of their challengers in the Highlands in the 12pm kick-off as they romped to a 4-0 victory to ensure they'll still be playing in the top flight next term.

Simon Murray opened the scoring with a deft header before the break and shortly after the restart it was 2-0 when Jordan White headed home from a corner.

Veteran Murray made it 3-0 with a stunning drive from outside the area and late on in the action, Ian Murray's side were left heartbroken when salt was rubbed into their wounds by Brandon Khela who swept home with his left foot to seal the deal.

County had finished 11th in the Premiership with St Johnstone managing to avoid the playoff on the final day of the regular season. Rovers beat Partick Thistle to reach the final.

They had finished second behind Dundee United in the Championship after a strong campaign.
