Roy Keane told a fan that he would 'wait for him in the car park' during a heated exchange after Ipswich Town's draw with Manchester United at Portman Road.

The former Red Devils captain also had a stint as manager of the Tractor Boys from 2009 to 2011. However, his time in Suffolk was marked by inconsistent form and he was eventually dismissed due to the club's struggles in the Championship and conflicts with disgruntled fans.

The latest episode in his relationship with Ipswich occurred on Sunday evening when the 53-year-old abruptly left the Sky Sports set on the pitch. He was working alongside Kelly Cates, Izzy Christensen and Jamie Redknapp as a pundit.

Keane was receiving final instructions from producers as they prepared to return from an ad-break when he exited the presentation area, leaving his microphone behind.

Keane then approached the nearest stand and engaged in a stern conversation with a fan, while others around him heckled and suggested: "Go in the car park and wait until the show's over," reports the Mirror.

Keane was subsequently filmed telling the fan, "I'll wait for you in the car park."

"Meet me in the car park," the Irishman repeated before being escorted back onto the field by a member of Sky's production staff. Redknapp, who had also left the presentation area, observed from the background.

Remaining fans in the stand were urged to calm down as Keane made his exit.

Roy Keane was subjected to further verbal abuse, with one individual sprinting across the upper tier to yell "F*** you Keane", as initially reported by Mail Online.

This is not the first instance of Keane being involved in a confrontation with a fan. In September 2023, the former Republic of Ireland international was headbutted at the Emirates Stadium. Such incidents have led Keane to express his frustration with his role as a pundit, stating he has no intention of continuing in the position for the next decade.

"I love football, but the hassle of matches, getting to games, and the hassle of fans. I was in court a few months ago with somebody headbutting me do you think I enjoy that side of it? Absolutely not," he said in August. "The games are fine. Getting to the games, parking up, people shouting your name good stuff, bad stuff it's a nuisance. Being a pundit in 10 years, not."

Following Ruben Amorim's first match in charge of United, Keane provided some post-match analysis, offering a candid assessment of the challenges ahead for the Portuguese head coach.

"He's got big problems," Keane said on Sky Sports. "The lack of threat in the second half, and Ipswich looked like they'd go on and win. They've not won at home all season. Same problems for Man United, but he's only had a week with them.

"You have to give the man a chance but the threat going forward, it's a huge problem for Man United. It's not good enough."
