Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is left with egg on his face after Liverpool's unexpected 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. Roy Keane's foresight proved spot-on in a match that marked Arne Slot witnessing his first Premier League loss this season.

Over the weekend, a solitary strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi in the 72nd minute granted Forest a hard-fought victory and three vital points, dismissing Carragher's confident assertion on The Overlap podcast of a comfortable 2-0 win for the Reds.

The ex-defender had even suggested Liverpool could take the opportunity to "rest" a few players in light of their upcoming Champions League bout with AC Milan.

Carragher had confidently asserted: " Liverpool 2-0 Forest probably rest a couple of people for Milan." Ex-Manchester United star Keane couldn't help but rib, chiming in: "He loves two-nils! " Carragher replied: "They're in control of it a bit more, it's slower and it's just get to two-nil after an hour."

Keane playfully retorted: "Trent could get a hat-trick if he's higher up the pitch." Sticking to his guns, Carragher reiterated: "2-0, probably make a couple of changes for Milan."

Wrapping up the pre-game predictions, Keane shared his own viewpoint, envisaging a win for Liverpool but with them conceding one goal, stating: "3-1, I think Gibbs-White will score."

Carragher was quick to point out Liverpool's impressive defensive record at the start of the season, with clean sheets in consecutive 2-0 wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford, and a 3-0 thrashing of United.

Carragher remarked: "Liverpool haven't conceded a goal yet, you know." To which Roy Keane quipped: "Exactly, so that means they will concede one."

True to Keane's light-hearted forecast, Liverpool did let in a goal when Hudson-Odoi scored in the latter part of the game, resulting in a 1-0 loss for the Reds and their slide to fourth in the Premier League standings.

The Reds are now bracing themselves for a tough Champions League encounter midweek against AC Milan at the San Siro, before returning to Anfield for a Premier League bout with Bournemouth on Saturday, September 21.
