Roy Keane believes that the settled starting team at Manchester United is a sign that Erik ten Hag is also settling nicely into his role as manager.

The Red Devils faced a troubling start to the campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford. Furthermore, the 4-0 defeat to Brentford raised concerns that no progress would be coming for a while.

The fact that United finished last season with their worst-ever Premier League points tally in a season made it certain to fans that the only way was up.

And former Ajax boss Ten Hag has subsequently shown signs of Man Utd progress. The 2-1 defeat of Liverpool was a major starting point and has in fact fuelled three wins in a row.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Arsenal, former United midfielder Keane insisted that he is seeing good things from Ten Hag – with the settled team a positive sign.

“Yeah I do, the win against Liverpool has given them a big boost,” the pundit told Sky Sports.

“He’s got a settled team – same starting 11 for the last three games. A couple of clean sheets, the last couple of performances haven’t been great, efficient, I like the look of the team now.”

Keane added: “United definitely look stronger, they have momentum, and there will be confidence in the team.”

Key selection decisions for Man Utd

Last season, United interim manager Ralf Rangnick chopped and changed all across the pitch.

In defence, right-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot competed for minutes. Ten Hag has now made the latter his concrete first-choice, with Wan-Bissaka only playing four minutes so far this term.

On the other flank, new left-back signing Tyrell Malacia is keeping Luke Shaw out of the team.

And at centre-back, Ten Hag has not been afraid to keep club captain Harry Maguire out of the team in place of new man Lisandro Martinez.

Indeed, the Argentine’s partnership with Raphael Varane has yielded two successive clean sheets.

Elsewhere, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are back impressing with goals and assists following poor form last term.

United will be hoping that settled team has continued to gel in training and can carry that momentum into Sunday’s clash with Arsenal.
