Alan King's mud lover Trueshan will swerve the Ascot Gold Cup as expected with sun baked ground in Berkshire.

Temperatures are expected to reach 27 degrees on Thursday, June 16 meaning the Prix Du Cadran winner won't tussle with four-timer chasing Stradivarius and Kyprios.

The six-year-old Planteur gelding was pulled from the Group 1 two miles, four furlong race last year too due to quick ground.

That leaves Aidan O'Brien's young pretender Kyprios to try and stop The Gosdens' superlative stayer Stradivarius from claiming a fourth Gold Cup in what is likely to be the eight-year-old's swansong season.

The Gold Cup takes place at Ascot racecourse at 16.20 on Thursday, June 16 and is worth a cool £283,550 to the winner.
