Wolves star Ruben Neves may be keen to leave the Midlands club following an admission over his “dreams” following final game of the season.

Neves has long been one of Wolves’ most important assets. Since joining the club, the Portuguese has racked up 214 appearances, netting 24 goals and providing 12 assists. The midfielder has now spent the vast majority of his career with the Molineux outfit. In the initial period he spent at the club, Wolves enjoyed relative success.

They won the Championship in his first season at the club, and followed that up with two seventh-placed finishes in the Premier League.

Furthermore, the Midlanders made it to the quarter-finals of the 2019/20 Europa League, before being knocked out by eventual victors Sevilla.

However, in the last couple of seasons Wolves have failed to reach the standards expected of them upon their return to the Premier League. Last season, they finished 13th, and followed that up with a 10th-placed finish in the recently-concluded season.

As such, there have been whispers that star player Neves could move on to pastures new. It seems he may now be a big fish in a small pond, following a number of seasons where he has starred for Wolves.

Reports of interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona have added to speculation over a move.

Neves himself has added fuel to the fire, with comments over the future of his career following the final game of the season.

“Everyone knows about what football is about, what our lives are about,” he said, via The Mirror.

“Our careers are really short, we need to take the opportunities we have. Of course, all of us have dreams and we need to live those dreams in a short space of time. Let’s see what happens. I cannot say too much about it.”

Neves also expressed his love for the club, in what may have been a farewell after five seasons at Molineux.

“This club means everything for me, for my family,” he said.

“My kids grew up in Wolverhampton; I have three kids, they were all born when I was here. That means a lot to me and the people mean a lot to me because they really helped me to settle here. For me, for my family, everyone is really important.”

The 25-year-old also emphasised the dreams he has for his career, which could well mean he wants a move elsewhere.

“If I go it would be really hard for me and my family. But, as I told you, we have dreams to live in a short space of time,” he said.

“And if anything happens, that’s why I was so emotional the last game at home because I don’t know how it’s going to be. If it was my last game it was really important.”

Given how well Neves has performed during his time with Wolves, he may be due a new challenge. The Midlanders would of course be losing a crucial asset, and one who may be tough to replace immediately.

However, that may be an eventuality that they will soon have to prepare for.
