South Africa kicked off the Rugby Championship with an impressive 26-10 win over New Zealand at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

Tries from Kurt-Lee Arendse and Willie le Roux and 16 points via Handre Pollard’s boot helped the Springboks seal a hugely deserved win.

New Zealand‘s only points of the day came via a Jordie Barrett penalty and a late Shannon Frizell try that was converted by Richie Mo’unga.

Piles pressure on Ian Foster

The result piles yet more pressure on All Blacks head coach Ian Foster, whose side suffered their third straight defeat in international rugby.

The two nations will meet again next Saturday in Johannesburg where a dominant South Africa will once again fancy their chances of victory.

Arendse’s first-half try was set up thanks to a wonderful offload from centre Lukhanyo Am as the Springboks went into the break 10-3 ahead.

Two further Pollard penalties and a drop goal took South Africa into a 19-3 lead before Frizell went over after good work from Caleb Clarke.

But the Springboks bounced back with time up on the clock as Le Roux capitalised on a loose pass to dot down and add gloss on the victory.
