England's players celebrate

England defeated New Zealand 33-21 – their first ever victory over the 'Baby Blacks' in the competition – with Henry Slade kicking 18 points while Matt Hankin, Anthony Watson and Tom Smallbone all scored tries.

England raced out to a 20-3 lead but had to overcome a second-half onslaught before securing the win.

Wales also overcame Southern Hemisphere opposition as they beat defending champions South Africa 18-17 in dramatic fashion.

South Africa were winning the match 17-11 going into the final two minutes before Ashley Evans ran onto a super chip from Sam Davies.

Davies then kept his nerve to convert the try and send Wales into the final which takes place in Vannes on Sunday.

A Northern Hemisphere team has never won the event that has been contested annually since 2008.

New Zealand won the first four events – beating England in the final three times – before South Africa defeated them in last year's final on home soil.
